Yvette Buergo is an Associate Attorney at Dorta & Ortega, P.A. She graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2014 after only three years. She earned her Juris Doctor Degree from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law in 2017. While attending law school, Mrs. Buergo served as the lead technical editor for the ILSA International and Comparative Law Journal, was a member of the Animal Law Society as well as the Hispanic Student Bar Association. Ms. Buergo continues to participate in functions at the College of Law by returning to the annual TASI trial advocacy summer program and serving as an educator for law students learning trial advocacy.

While attending law school, Mrs. Buergo worked as a legal intern to the Honorable Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat for Miami Dade Circuit Court, which soon led her to her internships at the Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office.

Prior to working at Dorta & Ortega, Mrs. Buergo served as an Assistant State Attorney for Broward County from October of 2017 to October of 2020. As a prosecutor she handled criminal cases ranging from second degree misdemeanors to first degree felonies trying over twenty jury trials to verdict. Following her employment at the State Attorney’s Office, she was a Senior Attorney at the Department of Children and Families handling Dependency cases.

Mrs. Buergo is fluent in Spanish and a member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
